THE CZARNECKI FAMILY: A HISTORY OF RESTAURATEURS

The Czarnecki family has been in the restaurant business for four generations and has run the world-renowned Joel Palmer House restaurant in Dayton since 1997. As the fourth generation chef and restaurateur, Chef Christopher and his wife/business partner, Mary, are committed to delivering superb cuisine and outstanding experiences to their guests and continuing their rich family tradition at The Barlow Room.

    INSPIRED BY OREGON'S PIONEER HISTORY

The Barlow Room name was inspired by pioneer Sam Barlow. Born in Kentucky on January 24, 1795, Barlow, his wife and four children joined the migration to Oregon in 1845. His party of seven wagons joined Joel Palmer's group and together they blazed a wagon trail over the Cascade Range that became known as the Barlow Road in 1846. The Barlow Road played an important role in the early development of Oregon. It carried an estimated 75% of the early immigrants to the Willamette Valley and was described as the most difficult section of the entire Oregon Trail. Barlow’s fellow pioneer, Joel Palmer, went on to found the city of Dayton, Oregon in 1850 with Andrew Smith.
