Founder's Day
Celebrate the 174th anniversary of the vote for provisional government and 116th annual commemoration of the monument to that event. On May 2, 1843, 52 men at Champoeg voted to form the first Provisional Government west of the Rocky Mountains. In 1901 the sole survivor of that vote and the descendants of the 52 men, gathered for a dedication of a monument to those actions. Every year since, people have gathered to commemorate the two events. This year's 116th gathering will feature: A combined Police, Fire and VFW Color Guard, guest speakers, a roll call of the 52 names, honored descendants, costumed re-enactors and Fur Trappers Rifle Volley Salute.
